What this debate seems to have established is the hidden ideological agenda and motives for these attacks on John LeKay and mostly upon Looking Back Woman is because of a so called “proclamation”, regarding the exploitation of ceremonies by a Lakota elder named Chief Arvol Looking Horse , whom Al Carroll and Annika Banfield are heavily promoting in Europe and all around the world in books and a film called Spirits for Sale. The inherent problem with this film is that serious allegations have been made regarding two of the main interviewees in this film. One being a man named Al Carroll who claims he is of mescalero apache descent but has unable to provide evidence to authenticate this claim. He is also included in a book alongside Trisha Jacobs They us Indians. This person also claims to be of Cherokee descent. See here http://www.trishajacobs.com/ who is also a current NAFPS member. Al Carroll has recently represented Chief Arvol Looking Horse (without his consent) in an attempt to shut down Heyoka magazine and to remove any criticism of himself, Arvol Looking Horse, Annika Banfeild and this Film and their respective organizations: ‘World In Our Hands’, ‘Wolakota’, and NAFPS.

As a result of the timing of the serious nature of this controversy and these outstanding allegations, the ethical step for Swedish film maker Annika Banfied would be to take affirmative action and edit both of these accused men from this film until this matter is resolved.
We ask that you take the perfect example of the moral and righteous action as when Heyoka magazine editor, John LeKay, removed Looking Back Woman’s interview from Heyoka magazine along with some others until more clarity has been brought to this situation.
We humbly ask that Aniika Banfleid remove the interview with Arvol Looking Horse and Al Carroll from this film Spirits for Sale.
We ask that a disclaimer is made regarding these serious allegations, knowing that there is potential that this film will only play into the hands of new age exploiters, hucksters, scam artists, new age interfaith religions and financial marketers; that this film in effect will have the reverse action of its stated intention and will make a mockery out of the exploitation of ceremonies; that this film will set a negative double-standard and by doing so will only seriously damage the Native Americans across the United Sates and from all nations.

I am an enrolled member of the Oglala Nation, Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Your assessment of the film and it’s subsequent censorship is extremely justifiable. I fully support your endeavor in having Al Carroll removed from the film. His website, nafps.org has been shut down several times for slander, libel and identity theft.
Mr. Carroll has never been able to prove that he is in fact a member of the Mescalero Apache. The man is for all intent and purpose a fraud. The film needs to be shelved for it disrespects the true nature of Lakota spirituality. I implore all American Indians and those who truly support Indians to protest “Spirits for Sale”.

IS AL CARROLL AN APACHE OR JUST
ANOTHER FRAUD?
Apache or Mexican?
Controversial fraud Hunter and self appointed medicine man buster Dr. Alton Carroll, aka Educated Indian has never made public his Apache parent(s) family name nor has he been able to substantiate his claims on the record that one of his parents or grandparents is of Apache origin. There could be many reasons for this but for the time being he still remains an enigma.
For example, there have been many instances of Hollywood actors who have made claims of being Apache to end up proven false. The obvious reasons and motivation for claiming to be of Mescalero Apache origin is usually monetarily driven, promotion of a career, books, seminars, films and donations for websites. Most often, they do this overseas and in Europe where it is close to impossible for people to validate their claims.
Most people would recognize the benefits and realize that this is a great sales pitch to use the name of Geronimo on your bio and to say that you come from the same tribe as one of the bravest warriors that has ever lived. In this day and age, some people will go to great lengths to stand out from the crowd. Whether it’s for an audition or selling a book or promoting a film.
The evidence so far indicates that Dr. Al Carroll is not enrolled, recognized or affiliated with any Apache tribe. His best defense to date is rather dubious because when asked he has replied by saying “ask my college friends and they will tell you about my Indian-ness”. Indian could easily mean Aztec or Mayan Yucatán, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Campeche, Hidalgo, Puebla, Guerrero, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz or Mexican Indian; since he did not say Apache-ness. Or it could also mean he’s from India for that matter. It could be that he is being facetious or is using humor to cleverly deflect this simple question; so that most people would laugh, shrug it off and forget about it and not ask again. In other words, assume he is telling the truth and take him at his word. After all, he is known to be the New Age Fraud buster.
Now, if his parent were of Apache origin, this would be in most instances simple to verify. With just a name of the parent and by asking the Apache people. Most families that live on the Apache Mescalero reservation would be able to confirm this. Since most likely his father is Irish ( with a name like Carroll ), that would probably mean his mother’s Apache maiden name would be all that is needed to identify her family and to prove descendency. If he were adopted, there would also be adoption papers that would legally verify who his mother was and her race.
To prove legitimate descendency, one needs to have some record of his/her belonging to a member of the tribe that was recognized by the tribe at some point. If you don’t have contact with your tribal member then you can ask the tribe to look for his last name.
His grandparents (living or deceased) and descendents grave sites in most instances would also be able to be located and identified. They can look this up in various ways and see if his family line is known.
Another way to find out is to use the tribal newspaper and submit an article asking if anyone has lineage to his tribal member. Or to have someone pass out flyers on the reservation with a photograph of Apache origin with the name for people who do not have access to a computer. If a family member is located and there is a dispute as to a relative, DNA analysis would simply resolve this. A blood sample could prove a positive match.
There really isn’t any logical reason or excuse in this high tech day and age for not being able to prove this. Without this proof, Dr. Al Carroll, as well as anyone else, can claim to be of Apache origin including myself and my Japanese next door neighbor. Anyone who is not able to prove this obviously is not being forthcoming with the truth.
Then the next question is, if this is the case; is Alton Carroll the right person to be operating a website entitled New Age Fraud and Plastic Shaman when all the evidence seems to point to the fact that he is a questionable and highly suspect person himself. Until this matter is completely resolved, the ethical thing for him to do is to step down until this is cleared up . As long as Dr. Al Carroll is under this dark cloud of suspicion, this will undermine the credibility and cover the legitimate participants on the New age fraud website.

Be prepared that if you do challenge Al Carroll, or his associate Barnaby McEwan; they will delete anything that you say that exposes their abusive behavior and in its place insert derogatory, infantile, deceitful and inverse racist comments.
They will most likely also blame shift and classically project their own negativity and ignorance onto the person and attempt to make it appear to their audience as if it was the innocent person’s fault. When all else fails, they may also attempt to make the person appear racist, condescending, patronizing and worse. You can also expect that they will flip and twist your words and comments, like “he is calling us dumb Indians”or he will delete a fine point and say it’s childish, rambling, insane, lazy, ignorant, , sloppy, racist and so forth. This is obviously designed to distort and invalidate the individual by creating a false impression to his audience and followers, as well as to attempt to make himself appear more intelligent, wittier, wiser, superior and so on.
Then after the individual is through, this could also lead to another round of a viscous smearing campaign and dissemination of more deceit and other forms of Internet Hate Crimes on other forums, chat rooms, websites and cyberspace.
Al will use all forms of bullying and intimidation tactics that are often implemented by cultists and street gang members.
When this fails, he then retreats and hides out for a while until the individual disappears and then starts all over again on a brand new unsuspecting individual.

Al Carroll commits libel 11 times.
Here is a response to Al Carroll’s article that he posted on August 6th, 2007 on many internet groups and the real reason why is website was taken of line.
LIBEL 1
Dr. Al Carroll: “New Age Frauds Plastic Shamans or NAFPS, located online at Newagefraud.org has been shut down temporarily due to the lies and libel by an English New Age racist, John Lekay, editor of Heyoka Magazine. Lekay is a leading promoter of New Age exploitation and colonialism and seeks to dominate Native spiritual traditions, especially Lakota religion, by promoting a series of fringe characters, all the while silencing Native voices.”
John LeKay: Libel Number 1.
New age fraud was shut down by their own choice. They were asked to remove the egregious libel concerning myself and were given 4 and a half days to do so. They chose to shut down their own site rather than remove the libel. Rather than say he was caught red handed lying, this is his attempt at blame shifting. I am definitely not a racist either. This is just another desperate attempt of his predictable mud slinging and playing the race card.
I have never tried to silence anyone’s voice or promoted New Age exploiters. Interviewing various people and asking objective questions to access the truth is not promoting them. Al Carroll’s inability to make a distinction between a message and the messenger is his fault not mine and if anything only reveals his lacking in critical discernment skills.
In answer to the charge of silencing all the native voices across the US? In reality, what I have done is the exact opposite and provided a platform for their voices could be heard. So that the injustices, human rights abuses, the environmental issues, the poverty and the rest are disseminated as wide as possible, through Heyoka magazine, links and list servers.
LIBEL 2
Dr Al Carroll: “Mr Lekay joined the Newagefraud. org forum a few weeks ago and tried to bully its members into withdrawing our criticism of New Age racism, exploitation, sexual abuse, and greed and commercialism.”
John LeKay: Libel Number 2. I asked for evidence of proof that these people accused were “frauds, perverts, sham-ons, feces, rapists, lost wonder breads, perverts, exploiters”. I asked Al Carroll and his group to substantiate their claims, email gossip, hearsay, speculation and assumptions. For doing so, I was viciously attacked by Al Carroll and one or two others and was called a child, racist, insane, rambler, cross dresser, conspiracy theorist, ignorant, propagator of genocide and pedophile interviewer and more; on various forums such as http://www.indianz.com etc.
LIBEL 3
Al Carroll: “When we refused to back down, Lekay became abusive, arrogant, childish, and attacked our members, misrepresented the position of Newagfraud.org and the respected Native elders we support, and used foul and abusive language with elderly members, even repeatedly comparing Native elders who oppose the New Age movement to mass murderers.”
John LeKay: Libel Number 3. Again this is not true and in reference to Tachia Hawk. The woman that called Looking Back Woman and Mala Spotted Eagle frauds, sham ons, feces, lost wonder bread children. No foul language was used by myself. Not even once.
LIBEL 4.
Al Carroll: “The moderators banned Lekay for his abusive behavior.”
JL: Libel Number 4. I was banned from NAFPS because I would not react to his abusive name calling. When all else failed and Al Carroll saw he was miserably loosing the debate, he hit the delete button. He also banned me because they could not provide me with substantiated evidence of some of the people they were accusing as frauds, perverts and more. As far as posting emails of accusing Mala Spotted Eagle of being a rapist on NAFPS and calling him one on indianz.com; I investigated this and found out he was never charged in Europe of rape. This was complete fabrication and libel.
LIBEL 5
Al Carroll: “He responded by contacting our host with more misrepresentations and false accusations, demanding we take off criticism of him or the New Age exploiters he promoted. When we refused, our host, which has changed owners, shut us down.”
John LeKay: Libel Number 5. I only contacted the POW WEB hosting company after seeing more libel about accusing me of being people I was not on the NAFPS site and more libel like saying I was making a film to smear Arvol Looking Horse and more. Once again, Al Carroll was graciously given 48 hours to remove the libel, and then an extra two and a half days. In total 4 and a half days. He self sabotaged his own site by not listening to his own hosting company. He not only didnt remove this libel, but he then posted his own web hosting company’s lawyer’s warning letter and my confidential letter online. He then allowed more comments and threats about this letter by others, like posting this letter on http://www.indianz.com. Such as having me” torn apart by Pit Bulls and Dobermans”.
This is considered harassment and in violation of his terms of service.

Al Carroll obviously violated Pow Web’s terms of service and his legal contact by indulging in libel, harassment, intimidation, prejudice, maliciousness, defamatory comments etc.
I can easily prove this libel and that’s why he was taken offline. The same way I can easily prove that what he states in this artilce is also libel. He did this to himself. This situation could have easily been remedied. I never asked for his site to be removed. I simply asked for a remedy to remove this libel and my private home address, street address, from his site.
LIBEL 6
Al Carroll: “Lekay has also contacted many people by e-mail, trying to obtain their support, which failed miserably. The only support he found was from a notorious white supremacist posing as part Comanche, David Yeagley, and one of his leading supporters, a violent racist named John Martin who has issued a number of death threats.”
John LeKay: Libel Number 6. John Martin is a full blood Lakota and not a white supremacist, who had photos of his wife and two small children posted by Al Carroll on his website. I have never heard of a a full blood Indian being a white supremacist. That’s like saying an African American is a white supremacist. It defies all logic and common sense. This seems to be the pattern. That anyone who disagrees with Al Carroll or questions his authority is labeled a racist, a white supremacist, fraud, child, insane, ignorant, paranoid, dangerous, violent, pervert, rapist, pedophile interviewer, cross dresser, wing nut, loon, crackpot, Rasptuin (his latest label for me) and much worse. It also seems that when he can’t use logic during a debate, he reverts to name calling as if he is a gang member; not a PhD college professor.

Al Carroll: “Lekay uses his Heyoka Magazine to publish several libelous articles about Dr Al Carroll, one of the founders of NAFPS, and Annika Banfeld the director of a Swedish charity for Native children who also helped produce a film against the exploitation of American Indian spirituality.”
John LeKay: Libel Number 7. These articles are interviews with Jimmy La Vallee, who was slandered and libeled by Al Carroll, and Robin, an ex NAFPS member and respected NA elder who was also attacked by him. Also an interview with Thomas Lightning Bolt. Also an article questioning Al Carroll’s claims of being a Mescalero apache.
LIBEL 8
Al Carroll: “Lekay is an ignorant, paranoid, and dangerous man who stated publicly he believed American Indians still live in tipis.”
John LeKay: Libel Number 8. I have never stated that NAs live in Tipis. This is pure ludicrousness and more mendacity. Another absolute lie!
LIBEL 9
Al Carroll: “He smears all who disagree with him as FBI and RMCP agents, or even tools of Bush and Cheney.”
John LeKay: Libel Number 9. I asked Barnaby McEwan ( “Alternative” English man residing in Totnes Devon England and NAFPS administrator) if he was in the FBI after he was attacking Kevin Annett and his film “unrepentant”. As far as I know, only one other person has attempted to stop this film other than these agencies, other than Al Carroll. So it seems Dr. Al Carroll, the FBI and the RMCP have a lot in common in silencing the genocide, rape and molestation of 50,000 Canadian native children. John LeKay: Libel Number 10. This is pure 100 percent libel again. I do not even know Louie Lawless the filmmaker. I interviewed him once last year. I never met Looking Back Woman and also interviewed her last year and have zero to do with this film – Absolutely NOTHING! This is another reason why he was kicked of his site since this can easily be proved by asking the filmmaker Louie Lawless himself. Any web hosting lawyer can send him an email and find this out.
LIE 1) Al Carroll: The latest news is that Lekay is apparently making a film about Dupree, a full length feature devoting to smearing Looking Horse. And Lekay is backing the film entirely with his own money. He sent out a series of press releases only last month promoting it.

Alton Carrol is no more Indian than I am. I work as a genealogist and have tracked down his family as it was such an item for comment. No Apaches anywhere. Mexicans yes, Irish yes but Indians no.
The guy lives in a fantasy world as does Barnaby McEwan, his cohort from Totnes in the UK. Now he is really nuts. Out of work dosser who sits on his computer all day, probably wearing his feathered headdress. He’ll be telling us next that McEwan is a Lakota name and Carroll is an Apache name.

Alton Carroll is a very sick man, passing for something he is not, his picture is everywhere on the internet. He use to call himself Educated Indio and sense has changed his name to Educated Indian. I guess he did not want to seem too Spanish, he will not discuss what he really is on his profile but tries to put your name out there and does not care whom he hurts.

I think you are right that he is sick. He is certainly delusional. At a guess I would suggest there was something in his childhood that caused him deep shame. He is obsessed with Europeans and white people and just can’t leave them alone. Even Native Americans are sick of him and he really gives them a bad press. He seems to be on a one man crusade to make all NAs look like whingeing idiots. Everyone loathes him.
He is sooooooooooo moral about how people should behave too. Too bad he forgot about his own rules when he put out an ad looking for a wife swap. It is still out there on the net somewhere. Maybe it is time his college knew about his antics???? Yep, maybe the time has come.

I agree that it is wrong to judge people by their colour or race. If I judge people at all it is by their behaviour.
I think some of the postings on here are in defence of that. It is nasty to see one person with a huge following of cyber friends, try and destroy nice people.
The reason they give is that non native Americans cannot embrace their traditions; unfortunately they don’t see it as a compliment or someone with a genuine interest.
I am not native American but on one occasion visited a pow wow in Denmark. I don’t know the name of the organisers as it was a long time ago and I have no idea of their nationality. All I know is that it was great fun and educational.
Now maybe some would say that it might have been flawed educationally and that the organisers were not qualified to teach. Perhaps, but what harm did it do? I came away feeling very warm towards all humanity and especially N As. It may not have been correct in every aspect but as I am neither N A or about to teach their ways it is of no consequence.
Certainly not a reason for the character assassination that would have ensued had Newagefraud been in attendance. It would not have warranted to hatred that is perpetrated so often today.
I just wish these people would see the bigger picture and realise all the hate eventually comes back to them

I am ready to stand before anyone who wants to challenge the recorded history presented in this new information.
I understand ALH recently used what he called the White Buffalo Calf Pipe, though there seems that there were few Lakota people present for this very important occasion for the Lakota People.
In view of the Proclaimation by ALH, it seems ALH is no longer acknowledging his own Proclaimation, does this mean everyone not Lakota who sent him their Cannunpa Wakans, to adhere to his Proclaimation, will be having them returned?
Why was it after the posting on http://www.lookingbackwoman of the disertation of the Historical Path of the Cannunpa Wakan(s), ALH now brings out a Cannunpa, but It is too Sacred to see, other than by dred-locked, cowboy hated, sports atired people?

Continuing information pertaining to this specific issue
has now come to light.
Where I opened the door to this with my Interview with John Lekay, many, many people have now come forward about what really happened during the Seige at Wounded Knee 1973, and by whom.
Only now are the Tetuwan people themselves finding out what happen to
their gift from Creator via White Buffalo Calf Pipe Woman.
I am proud to say, with time I was able to show John Lekay
my Heyoka Interview’s 2006 validity, and it has been reposted on
Heyoka since January 2009.
There is even more corresponding information newly posted on lookingbackwoman.ca that shows clearly the Cannunpa Wakan was never passed to the Looking Horse family, nor any Bad Warriors or Elk Heads.
Martha Bad Warrior stated before all assembled in Aug. 1936 recorded by Wilbur Riegert, that no one in her family was worthy to carry the Cannunpa Wakan because all of them were becoming Christianized.
Corresponding photo on the lookingbackwoman.ca site shows Old Man Elk Head holding the Cannunpa I was passed by Frank Fools Crow in 1975, with a huge cross around his neck.
This clearly shows how AIM used this situation, with ALH’s assistance to control that which is Sacred for all of mankind until I opened the door to the truth….and it rushed through to attest what I said was true, and it is why I was attacked, and John Lekay also…for posting it.
The finger pointers are the worst offenders, but the equalizer is when they get the letter from the legal team challenging their slander and libel.
You have the truth before you, it is now what the people do with it…that will change this black road course these deceiptful people have taken so many down for the god almighty dollar.

The truth needs to come out and will. However, I am quite disturbed that Arvol Looking Horse and his wife, Paula Horne, traveled to Sweden – all expenses paid of course, to meet with this film maker. We have many talented native film makers here in the US and I think that native people should utilize the service of others native people, especially in making a film like this. They are all interested in making money and know that the Europeans especially love anything to do with Lakota Indians. Ever since they saw the movie Dances with Wolves, they have been nearly obsessive when it comes to the Lakota. I find it repulsive that this white woman from Sweden is actually sitting in judgment of native people in the US. But Al Carroll – a fraud of course, Tricia Jacobs – who has so many lawsuits filed against her she probably will never return to the US, for her fake and nasty website – Respect in Cherokee, finally took her website down, but left a nasty parting shot when she did. There is a website up about her, by many of the people who filed lawsuits against her – http://www.triciajacobs.com – these people are sick, vicious and hiding so much of their own fraud, that they go on the attack with others to deflect questions about themselves.
They are a vicious group. Not one of them responds, behaves or reacts in a respectful manner to anyone, showing quite clearly that they not raised traditionally. Arvol Looking Horse should have never made the mistake of becoming involved with any of them. Why would the U of Texas want Al Carroll working as a professor for them? He has a terrible reputation in the US and he will never be able to prove he is Apache because he’s not.

I have recently returned home after spending the past 15+ years in Europe (Germany and the UK). The Europeans have an intense fascination with our culture and groups of them conduct their own “PowWows” on the week-end where they dress up, sing, dance, etc. and pretend to be Native. The interest in Germany began when Karl May wrote several books (all fiction) about our people having never met a real Native. Although his books put us in a good light, they do not protray the real beliefs/culture. You will found “PowWows” in almost all European countries now … Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Poland, and yes, even Russia. My Native brothers and sisters and I have spent years trying to educate the Europeans (not with performances, lectures, etc. Just good, sound, free advice) only to find ourselves being attacked by the goons from NAFPS. We stopped answering their intrusive questions because they seem to think a letter from a federally recognized tribe which states someone is 6th generation Creek means PODIA. We are also of the opinion no Native and no Nation needs to answer to NAFPS and we do not need their stamp of approval to be what we are. NAFPS is all about promoting Al Carroll, the phoney Apache. I’ve done his genealogy and he is, indeed, Mexican/Irish. Trisha Rose Jacobs , the phoney Cherokee, is hiding under the name Moma Porcupine. She, All and Annika are in this for the money. They are extremely vicious and have sent emails to the employer, family members, acquaintances and organizations when doing research on an individual. It is abundantly clear none of them have been raised in a Native community nor have they had much contact with real Natives. Al is even paying for a website on which he slanders and defames a Comanche he has a problem with. How sick is that? They need to be stopped before they hurt themselves.
